General

Traditionally vehicle wash machines have been designed in either bristle or clothe options, and hence the reason mines and quarries do not use them. The friction involved in washing vehicles with these machines either damages the vehicle’s paint, or the mining vehicles damage the machine. This results in costly repairs to the machine. Bristle machines cannot clean vehicles with sharp edges, expanded metal or mesh side panels as they rip the brushes to pieces.

It has been proved in various case studies, in coal and base metal mines that by repeatedly washing the undercarriage of a vehicle, the maintenance costs are greatly reduced.  Coal and base metal dust gets into the brake components causing damage thus reducing the life of the brake pad, liners, disc and drums. By regular washing this damage will be extensively reduced.

This excludes areas such as bearings and seals on the drive chain, exhausts etc.  Preventive maintenance is now easy to perform as the entire undercarriage is clean.

Touchless washing does not rely on friction to scrape dirt off but rather a combination of

  • Pressure, volume and velocity of water in carefully calculated ratios.
  • Impact at optimum angles
  • Machine designed for the particular vehicle to be washed.
  • Chemical action at correct dwell times, temperatures and concentrations.

Undercarriage Vehicle wash - automatic section

The Kwik Car Wash system uses magnetic loop technology to activate the pumps and sprays. It does not rely on infrared beams, limit switches, photocells etc.  The average time taken to wash a vehicle is 2 min per motor car and 4 minutes a 22m truck or earth-moving vehicle such as a CAT 777D.  The system is designed to either spray the soap solution on the sides, up to wheel height or 2m and the undercarriage (180 degrees)

Pre-soak and detergent dispenser
The use of the correct detergent in each industry is important to ensure that the vehicle is properly prepared for cleaning, with the dirt being held in suspension, waiting the wash cycle. Each machine is designed to allow for the proper dilution and dwell times for our detergent. The soap solution is dispensed as the vehicle passes over the first undercarriage diffuser.

Voluminous pressure washing
This is the strength of the touchless washing. Through years of research, we have been able to determine the impact force and angles required in order to clean a vehicle with its first pass. We are able to identify the most important areas for washing. When designing the undercarriage wash areas behind axles, differentials or silencer boxes and target specifically. These areas are cleaned each time the vehicle goes over the undercarriage wash diffuser.

A Kwik Car Wash touchless machine is the only machine in South Africa capable of working the way it is required too, without under-going any major design changes.

Rinse
All models are fitted with this feature. When the vehicle passes over the undercarriage rinse unit, clean fresh water is gently sprayed on the vehicle. This washes away the water used to clean the vehicle, together with any residual dirt held by that water.

Pump module
The pump module consists of a 75Kw motor, connected to a multi stage high pressure pump. Single phase chemical dosing pumps, isolating and regulating valves, water purifying and storage system, solenoid valves, electrical control console all mounted on a heavy duty mild steel frame epoxy coated.
The module is assembled and tested in our factory before being transported to site as a unit.
The electrical console incorporates a soft starter for the main pump, single and three phase motor protection equipment, magnetic detector units, mains on/off switch, safety interlocks and emergency stop buttons.

Tyre guides
One or two sets of tyre guides fabricated from mild steel seamless pipe, welded to a heavy-duty mild steel angle section. Each section is secured to the concrete base by anchor bolts. The assembled structure is sprayed with two coats of epoxy paint.

Reclaim system

The water from the wash bay should feed into a sump, the size of which is determined by the size and number of vehicles to be washed. The sump is not included in our reclaim system and is part of your civil costs.
The reclaim system consists of an ORIVAL filter with automatic self cleaning facility, 10,000Lt heavy duty plastic tanks, pipe work, control equipment a foot valve and pump
